Riverfront Development has always been an open discussion. I'm not the only one to say yay! Also, I don't need to be reminded about my responsibilities to the public. Because I've been involved the public is always abreast of any/all input regarding these exciting development/infrastructure issues. But, usually those who feel left out of the public making process is because either they don't want anything done or aren't involved to begin with. This is a democracy, after all. So, I encourage any/all input...if a dock is going to be much longer than just for a 60' boat and it's going to be "permanent" docking I'd think it would also include other boats to also dock and come into the Stockade. Also, because a major national(over 500 miles long) bike trail that follows the Erie Canal it was also discussed that that'd be another plus for boaters during this season who would disembark their boat craft and follow the bike path and along the way visit the Stockade/Proctors/Downtown/Vale Park, and so forth. As you know or should from the Daily Gazette that there are monies that will be used and are being used right now to allow for a bike trail/road markings/designated bik lanes, etc that fed/state/local roads will be seeing added throughout Sch'dy's streets and even other parts of the county that connect to the city. The hike/bike trail meeting was held this past late spring @ the Price Chopper meeting room. Also, in June was another meeting on the development of State St. from Erie Blvd west to SCCC for new enhancements, etc. So, all these issues are out there for the public to have input. I rarely see any of those who are always complaining about being left out of any public discourse @ these meetings. They're not only "neighborhood" meetings but also, will enhance the city overall. So, attend any/all public meetings regarding such and also just walk over to our wonderful city hall and speak to the very knowledgeable Development Office and they'll answer any questions. You'll get more facts than you can handle. And that's a positive. Thanks for staying involved. We'll get there but, can't do it alone. GeraldPlante/2ndDistDems12305
Davidgiacalone...you missed the whole, wonderful point of our waterfront and, yes, a SEQR is fine...been involved w/enough of them...too bad you don't use 'enhance' in your vocabulary enough for positive developments...it's people like you that aren't forward thinking for the community's sake @ large...sounds like you have other motives...the impact has already been looked @ - for years...duh!...that's why, now, something is getting done. Get involved or get out!...see ya on the beach!
The City has discussed such an endeavor in the recent past and other, similar scenarios for @ least 10+ years that I know of. I was one of the first one's and a handful of others that fully support(ed) the underutilized waterfront. It's not just about a public park, Riverside Park but, water access...for All to enjoy and enhance the surrounding environs. On the East Front St end of there is still housing, green space, retail and other 'amenities' that are in the works all the way up to the old Alco site @ Freeman's Bridge. Development of this neighborhood takes time but, hey, the end result is a stronger infrastructure and future for the first historically recognized neighborhood in the state! Perhaps another public comment could take place. This idea is one that doesn't need much thought though. The river is there and so is the potential. Always has been, always will be. So, enjoy. Judge Kramer should've rendered a different decision. Trust me, a judge has broad powers and, yes, a judge can make a determination one way or the other that would allow for such an outcome for a very, very long time. It all depends which court you use. And no, I'm not "politically connected", in the perverted sense you're getting at "Harold S". Regardless of Judge Kramer or any judge being held in "high regard" we, the people, have an obligation to society and point out when the evidence and judicial outcome is just not working. Also, not all decisions are based on fact. This is just what our democracy was intended for: debating issues of the day. So, there is no "other" behind my "criticism". Any issues and candidate I've supported for 17+ years has been won all in the name of transparency and dedication to a more just and safer world.
Why do City Dems support 'acting' Judge Barry Kramer? He goes against the city every time the Sch'dy PD screws up. Barry Kramer comes before us during orgainization of petitions and pleads, cajoles and explains ad nauseum how he played basketball in his past life, etc and uses his boring humor to garner support for his run as judge is like listening to a broken record. Judge Kramer come into the 21st Century and deal w/problems as such. You don't get support from me. Don't understand why my fellow dems applaud you and practically fall all over you when it's time to roll you out for seeking office as judge. Retire already! Mr. Lowry: The only way you - today - get rid of lackluster board members on the Bd. of Ed in Sch'dy is vote them out. And, our Stockade neighbors/friends helped to do just that this May! As you know, Joyce Wachala of Arthur's Market is a new addition to the Bd of Ed as well as Ms. Hermann. They've already proven very effective. They will be our eyes/ears and moral compass as we go into the future and, hopefully, push Mr. Ely & Co. out even further! GeraldPlante/2ndDist/Stockade
Oh, please: "...build a bond and camaraderie among the staff." Just have a conference call or something that doesn't take away a dime from REAL learning - in the classroom. All this so-called professional development. Just act like professionals and everything falls into place. Excuses, excuses, excuses for spending monies the district shouldn't be using in the first place. ?!Where's any plan for bringing down the cost of all of this 'development'. Look in the mirror more often - that's where the real problem lies.
I disagree w/Mr. Holcomb that only Tier I state workers are the only one's who can retire @ 55 yrs of age. I'm a Tier IV and I definitely will retire @ the age I am allowed to retire at: 55 yrs of age. The problem w/so many of the work force is that they stay on too long. I know of several people who - @ 55-57 yrs of age - are leaving state service as we speak. From what I've heard in Albany lately is that the average age of State workers in OGS is 50 yrs of age and w/in 5 years there will be a mass exodus of state workers ready to retire - all @ the age of 55 regardless of 'tier'.
Excuses, excuses,excuses....=....excess, excess, excess...what does professional development or "clearing your head" from the school (district) have to do with children in schools? Everytime Mr. Ely and Co. want a raise in school taxes their plea is for the kids...this scenario doesnt' sound like it to me. Pay us - the property owners. We want ALL our tax $$$$ returned for a rainy day fund for when you can't come up w/creative ideas to save a few pennies to offset the burdensome property taxes...don't come calling on us who've been there for generations of give outs...a Property Tax Cap/Circuit Breaker is in the very near future for All NY'rs. So, buckle up it's gonna be a bumpy ride for the Schenectady Schoool District in the near future. Get used to it. Gerald Plante/2ndDist/StockadeDems...
