Responding to Mary Duquette's letter about replacing library books: I too had to replace two that were not lost, but damaged by a loveable dog I was fostering. New books, they were. I was told that there were other costs involved in getting the replacement into the system (labor?) and their policy is not negotiable. I also checked online as to cost. Same result as Mary's. My intention regarding a bequest to the library at some future point could be affected by this experience.

$760 is more than half your SS? It's more than all of mine and I get along responsibly on it and little else. Sounds like better choices might be in order. Like have money with you or a credit card although I doubt cabs take those. Keep an emergency $20 in your wallet at all times.

What's more important, your wallet or pure drinking water? High quality water is not replaceable. Protect it!

I agee with Gay Doolittle. It really would be nice to be able to buy some wine along with groceries and not make extra stops, along with supporting local businesses. Local, meaning N.Y.State. Why should beer drinkers be privileged while those of us who do not like beer are inconvenienced.
