Phil, sure the Rats could get more ink but you're dreaming if you think they're more deserving than Siena. Fan support, community interest, wins-losses, it aint even close, in any regard.
Laxman is right. You want apples to apples? Forget the regular season, when Rats draw no one. Take the playoffs (on the rare occasion they actually make it). Biggest games of the year and they draw even less! As opposed to Siena (or UAlbany) packing the house for MAAC or America East or NIT.
More importantly, this region (and the country, for that matter) by and large doesn't care about hockey. If they did it would get more coverage, TV ratings, etc. That's a fact.
You and Schott obviously love hockey, but if you're being objective (which as reporters aren't you supposed to be?) You can't put hockey in the same league as hoops.
Facts are facts. Bitterness doesn't change them.
And, by the way, I agree with you, Time Warner should do something with Rats. But the fact that they don't speaks volumes.............
Funny how you keep saying 'former Knickerbocker arena'. Either you are showing your age or the Gazette has mandated you can't use the words 'Times Union'. Wonder which?
