wmarincic, do you really have that much distrust of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces that you think they will turn against the people? Sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory to me. I, for one, trust American soldiers, and would give them the benefit of the doubt.

Funny... slavery was ended in 1863, but the term "GOP" didn't exist until 1875.

I grew up in Schenectady where friends had to travel to Canada for healthcare because it was still less expensive than the US system. We're all hoping the Affordable Health Care Act will finally bring affordable health care to the United States.

Really? You don't think it's a good idea to have some restrictions sales of cigarettes, alcohol, or other proven-to-be-bad-for-you consumables?

While I think you should stop drinking the kool-aid, the law says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about what you can or can't drink. You can drink as much of that crap as you want. There is nothing banned. Please stop following the fear-mongering news sources that lie to you and try to divide the nation. This is not liberal vs conservative. This is fact vs fiction. The law does not ban soda. The law does not restrict what you can or can't drink. You can drink any size soda you want... you just can't buy certain size sodas at certain places. Please please please choose actual fact-reporting over fear-reporting.

Today, a new leader has been chosen to take control of one of the most important institutions in the world. This man will lead this historical organization through its ongoing pursuit and support of the betterment of all humanity. He will look down over the people and make huge contributions to the promotion of understanding, reverence, and human cooperation. Yes, there is a new leader. He is Commander Chris Hadfield, and today he takes over command of the International Space Station. :-)

Wow... there are some clueless people here. 1) There has never been a law telling people what to eat and drink. Anyone suggesting otherwise doesn't understand the news. The law only restricted the sale of certain sizes of fat-causing drinks. The kind that cause the cost of healthcare to rise for all of us. Maybe you like paying more for healthcare, but I don't. 2) Bloomberg never said people have no right to defend themselves. That's just ignorant fear talking. 3) It is never alright to murder a baby. A baby, by simple biological definition, is "a very young child, esp. one newly or recently born". You can't abort a baby who has already been born. Anyone who calls abortion "murdering of babies" has no grasp on 5th grade biology. 4) With the proposed law, people do have the choice to drink a sugary soda. As much sugary soda as you can shove down their fat face. Suggesting otherwise shows you clearly don't understand the law at all.

Would you also fire anyone caught eating while driving, since it causes more accidents than marijuana? http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/eati...

So wmarincic, are you saying we shouldn't believe this story, or that we should believe what the Gazette says about the Schenectady PD? Because this is LITERALLY what the Gazette is saying about the Schenectady PD.

I was talking about 1999-2005, though. I don't really agree with complete banishment of guns like that, but it does make for a good experiment. It showed there was less gun crime in a place where handguns weren't allowed, than a place were guns were mandatory. Even though the place with no handguns was just a 15-minute drive from Chicago, one of the worst cities in America for gun violence.
Do you listen to much Dan Carlin? A lot of what he says is pretty universally agreed upon by both those on the left and right. His last show was all about gun violence. I was wondering if he said anything that you'd disagree with. Here's a direct link to the show - http://traffic.libsyn.com/dancarlin/cswd...
