Sara - although not specifically a musical, if you haven't seen "I Am Sam" starring Sean Penn, it's worth a look. Beatles songs (performed by another band) were used to drive the movie, and I've always enjoyed it. Check it out!
Sara FOSS!!!!!!!!!! You never relayed that story to US! Either that, or I'm getting older than I think! That's amazing. For some reason I can see you remaining very calm in a situation like that, although it must have been terrifying. Hopefully the rest of your birthdays remain as unexciting as your past one! Happy Birthday - by the way!
Although I agree Matt Cassel is no Tom Brady, I believe that Belichek knows what he's doing. Give Matt the benefit of the doubt for now. After a few games, we'll be able to see if he's competent or not. Just remember a few years ago we had no clue who T.B. was, and he stepped up when Bledsoe went down........things turned out pretty well THEN, didn't they??
I realize I am many months late in responding to “Eagles, no. Prince, yes.”. I did not even realize that you were writing “Foss Forward” until recently. I have been catching up on your past blogs and thoroughly enjoyed this particular one.
As you know, I am a music fiend and even though your musical tastes seem to be much more varied than mine (I’m sure age difference is a factor here), I just wanted to toss out my thoughts on the subject of “Bands I Can No Longer Listen To”. My feelings on this subject vary from yours quite a bit. To me, most of the music I used to listen to, are still some of my favorite songs, albums and bands. For me it is part of my life’s history, and an important part of who I am. I grew up with the Beatles, Stones, Eagles, Tull, etc. Yes – I’m a classic rock fan, and although I have listened to newer bands over the more recent years, I always seem to migrate back to the comfort of the above mentioned musical acts, as well as Bob Seger, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton and the like. Just like an old pair of slippers, they fit me well, and the comfort can’t be beat. I find that if I enjoyed a song or band years ago, they are still for the most part enjoyable today. Denying music that I found satisfying and interesting in the past is like denying my heritage in a way.
I still also enjoy softer rock that I used to listen to such as Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Beach Boys and even Hall and Oates. While I realize they don’t have the bite of many newer bands the music and lyrics still resonate for me. To me music is like the symphony of my life, and hearing an old song invokes memories of my past which usually warms my heart and soul. So for me, it would be difficult to compile a list such as “Bands I Can No Longer Listen To”. For the record, I still CAN listen to Steve Miller, and the Eagles although I guess if I HAD to start a list, Bryan Adams might be on it.
Thanks for this blog Sara, and all of the others you’ve written, all are either fun, or interesting or thought provoking or all of those together. Kudos to YOU!
