Yes there is discrimination in this country. Discrimination from all races towards all races. I have been subjected to discrimination from black people several times over the years. I have not reciprocated. But it angers me to be lumped into a category of "white" and therefore racist. This statement is so not true: "White Americans can travel the breadth of the land, stop anywhere, knowing they belong. That’s their country and they are at ease anywhere they go." Try walking or driving through a predominantly black neighborhood if you are white. Try working in a predominantly black environment, or living in one, and you will know you are different and not welcome. All races discriminate, not all people.

Finally some good news for this small business owner! My heart goes out to Joyce, and I hope this issue is soon resolved, and she is compensated for her losses.

The parents of these children are probably helping/encouraging them to vandalize property. Children learn from their parents. These are monster children, with monster parents. Who cares if they get hurt on barbed wire? Why do responsible, tax-paying citizens have to suffer at the hands of these animals? When you're living near these hooligans every day is a battle. It's not right.

I have yet to hear a good reason for giving $500k to Galesi. That money can go further if applied to other projects. Why does Galesi suddenly need more money?

justapto - downtown events usually attract a big crowd. I'm sorry you're out of the loop! Call the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation and tell them to improve their promoting of downtown Schenectady. They can afford it: they have a $500k budget.

re. "Liven up Schenectady with summer events" - um, does this writer know that there are two farmers markets every week in downtown Schenectady? Jazz on Jay every week during the summer? Other events to date: Pride Fest and Kids Art Fest. There was a weekly Art Night but there was a lack of community support and it fizzled. Support what's already going on and it can grow further.

one gets a sprinkler from a store. you don't need a yard to have a sprinkler. my neighbors' kids do fine with their sprinkler and they have no yard.

I wonder how many of the complainers are actually Schenectady taxpayers? I grew up in the suburbs. There was no public pool, and we had no private pool. Get a sprinkler.

She was manipulated? Doubtful: look at that come hither look she's giving the camera. And she stole $40k from public assistance! That's the real crime.
