The real question should be why does a church need an armed guard? Who do these Christians pray to and what do they pray for that requires armed protection.

Hay Vaflagger and coachmike, there is no requirement for god to be part of a marriage. Marriages are performed by Mayors and Judges and many others. The state issues a license just as it does for hunting and fishing. If you want to exclude people from being married in your church you can but don't deny others the ability to marry and share a life together. If you want to live in a country that bases all its laws on religious beliefs then move to Iran, I am sure they will be as tolerant of your views as you are of others here. Our founding fathers, most of whom and Ben Franklin in particular were not strongly religious, insisted on the establishment clause in the constitution so that laws would not be passed with religious intent along with the government establishing a national religion or preventing religious practices.
Live your life the best you can and let others do the same if god makes the final judgment fine, let her do it and we will all have to be responsible for our own actions and statements.

The question that should be asked is why does a community college have a music program in the first place? This should not be a priority for this type of institution. I am sure the money spent on the music program could be better spent in other areas. I never heard of the program before this all blew up and now I wish I never had.

A marriage license, like fishing, hunting and drivers licenses, is issued by the state. No one should be denied one if they meet the basic requirements, hunter safety course for hunting, Drivers Ed for driving or a certain age for marriage. If a person has religious objections to homosexuality they should join churches that don’t allow gays or lesbians to marry, but should not force their religious beliefs on the rest of society. Remember a marriage is not necessarily a religious ceremony nor does a marriage performed as part of a religious service have any more standing then one performed by a Mayor or Judge or a Ships Captain, if ship captains can actually marry people. Don’t keep two people in love from being able to live their lives together with the legal benefits of a state issued legal document. God has nothing to do with a marriage license; people are invoking the name of God to further their bigotry and hatred.

Tedisco, like Suhrada, hate to see things improve in the city. If Tedisco had any political smarts he would have followed Farley's lead and sponsored the legislation so he could claim some credit for it later on.
