So what else is new? Once again the rube myopic local excuse for a government screwed it up. Hey, the only growth industry in this area is poverty. I see that every day - a recession is when you're out of work, a depression is when I'm out of work.
It's really worse than anyplace in Asia -- at least there the officials are smart enough to be corrupt and demand bribes before they kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
This is more pathetic because these people aren't getting anything more from their intransigent and outrageous demands than stroking their own egos. At least in China and Vietnam the officials have the acumen to get "baksheesh". These people are just incompetent.
Mr. Mackay has a lot of chutzpah to exhort people to "be more skeptical", and imply that it's Lowe's fault for leading us down the primrose path. Ms. Rutt tries to spin it by saying "now we have a site that pretty much has everything".
Why not just board up all the windows on Main Street, since no business can make it downtown anyway -- just let the truth show itself from behind the facade. The people who run this excuse for a town and village are not just anti-business, they are anti-anything. Why would any business that does decent due diligence about the government here ever want to have anything to do with this pimple on the butt of the planet?
In the end, Lowe's, just like Interknitting, pulled out because of the attitude, not because of the money. If they had actually been welcomed instead of being constantly confronted with overregulation, they would be here.
