Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity Foundation, made the following statement in response to criticisms of speakers at AFP Foundation’s recent Defending the American Dream Summit.

"The speakers who commented on the awarding of the Olympics were not AFP Foundation staff but guests at our national summit. Their views do not reflect the sentiment of AFP Foundation. We support bringing events like the Olympics to the United States assuming the events result in economic growth and do not further burden American taxpayers."

"Some attendees at the Summit expressed a positive reaction to the announcement that President Obama’s trip to Copenhagen failed to bring the Olympics to Chicago. I believe the reaction shown by some attendees at our Summit was focused on the President’s personalizing the issue to himself by departing Washington for an international trip of this nature while the future of our nation’s health care system hangs in the balance and none of the federal appropriations bills is finished."
