This is crazy to believe closing bars one hour early will prevent brawls and assaults. During tourist season, it would be more beneficial to hire more police or peace officers during track season. It's the cost of doing business in a town known for its tourists and racing fans during the summer and just plain common sense.

This is craziness and small town politics at its best. Ms Marchione is not even remotely qualified for this position other than by her connections.

Unfortunately, witnesses are not going to come forward for fear of being prosecuted. Sad indeed.

I love the racetrack Karl - not just for the betting on horses (although I do enjoy a bet or two) but for it's history and beauty. I walked around Horse Haven after parking my car trying to envision the racetrack as it was in the late 1800's. However, this year I was unhappy with all the fences around the paddock. The paddock area didn't seem as fan friendly as in previous years. I'm sure some drunk fan got too familiar with one of the racehorses or did something equally stupid to inspire the new fencing. I'd rather NYRA do away with the booze and keep the paddock area accessible to their fans. I can dream can't I?

Horse racing and lotto encourages compulsive gambling as well. So does the current Saratoga Racino and harness track. The State needs the money!
