While I do agree that celebrities often times know very little about anything other than being celebrities, (Yoko Ono is not exactly a renown geophysicist), they do manage to get some air time for the opposing viewpoint.
The shale industry has dumped millions of dollars into advertising, pay-offs to media shills (who ignoramuses like yourself apparently believe, say "baaa Vito, say baaa. good boy!), and lobbying that the opposition just can't match.
Yes, they own farms, and restaurants, but if they didn't, somebody else would, and none of the products harvested are even going to be used in this country, no less in this state.
Your energy bills are not going to decrease by so much as a penny, and the shale companies have openly stated as much.
Fracking is little more than selling the future of our state to the highest bidder, and no, there will be no economic "boom", as in North Dakota which has 1/20th of our population, and labor pool.
There are more people living within 60 miles of Albany, than live in the entire state of North Dakota, where the "boom" has already hit it's peak, and if North Dakota is doing so well, then why are they still receiving $1.68 of federal money for every $1.00 they put in?
They also have thousands of square miles that probably won't be population centers for another century or two, and if there is one thing New York State does not have, it's disposable real estate.
I would feel better about fracking if there were any type of accountability, but there just isn't, because the "Cheney Loophole" made sure of that.
They refuse to divulge what chemicals are being used, because that information is "proprietary", as though if you, or I knew what they were, we would just start our own oil company.
I'm confident, that every company that fracks knows exactly what chemicals are used, and none of them are harboring some special secret that the rest are not aware of.
Don't think economic "boom", think Love Canal and you'll be more on the mark.

There are a record amount of poor people because the corporations that you so vehemently defend, not only shipped the jobs overseas, in order to dodge labor, and environmental laws, they also keep the profits in foreign banks to avoid paying taxes.
They were even allowed to deduct the cost of moving those jobs.
So not only do they not pay taxes, they get refunds, but I guess that's what you think capitalism is.
Those same corporations are also enjoying the lowest tax rates in 50 years, but we dare not raise them, because they are the mythical "job creators".
Yeah, right. So where are the jobs?
