When Joe Bruno announced back in March that he was seeking re-election, the NYS Democrats had to run an opposing candidate, but they figured they'd probably lose no matter who they ran, so they picked Brian Premo. Much like a boxer who's been told to throw the fight if he doesn't want to get hurt too badly, Premo announced his candidacy but has not even established a campaign website or even an office that can be found by a Google search. Bruno's public comment when Premo announced was :"Brian Premo doesn't have the experience". And boom, down goes Premo at the first punch. There's been no serious effort by Premo to contest this election at all.

Now, Bruno's leaving office, and Premo, this guy the Dems only put up there because they felt like they had to run somebody against Bruno, finds himself in a spotlight he never intended to occupy. The Dems must be kicking themselves in the butt, because had they run a serious contender, it's possible they might have secured the 43rd District seat in the Senate for the first time in forever, but now they're stuck with this guy who was willing to lay down and throw the fight at the first punch. Unless Russo steps into the gap and makes a serious play for the Senate seat, the GOP will re-secure the 43rd District for themselves, and possibly the Senate majority.

On Bruno’s exit sets off political maneuvering
