I grew up on Fourth St. right next to Lincoln school...the Freihofer horse and wagon were a great treat to all the kids on the block...and though we bought from the wagon "treats", we also had visits from the bakery van from the Dutch Oven Bakery with their many trays that pulled out to show off the sugared twists(which were my Mother's favorites) and the jelly donuts, as well as the wonderful breads! Does anyone remember the "Rice" bread the DO used to make? Have never found it anywhere else. That bakery made all of the wedding cakes in my family for many years. Also "Pete" the veg. man used to stop with his truck on a reg. basis, and all the wives would come out and talk while they waited to order. We had some wonderful times growing up in Scotia, the kids today have no idea what they have missed! If I recall correctly, the rag man also sharpened knives and scissors, a service we used occaionally.
