biography

Tim has been a copy editor at the Gazette since 1978. He has seen the transition from editing stories with a pencil on paper to the use of computers, as well as the change from paste-up to pagination. He has a bachelor's degree from Utica College and a master's degree from Penn State, both in speech and communication. Outside the Gazette, he has hosted the Tim Coakley Jazz Show on WAMC (90.3 FM) since 1987, plays drums with Skip Parsons' Riverboat Jazz Band as well as his own trio, and serves as president of A Place for Jazz, a local jazz society that presents concerts by major jazz artists each fall.
