In a journalistic career spanning more than 30 years, R.J. has roamed the world as a reporter, editor, freelance writer,photographer and radio newscaster/reporter. Covering Schoharie County news since 2005, R.J. began working at The Gazette in 2003 as a copy editor, then as a business and technology reporter. Raised in the Catskills, R.J. lived and worked in Alaska, Florida and Japan. In Alaska, he was managing editor and writer at the Homer News and a copy editor at the Anchorage Daily News. Among other publications, he's been a reporter or editor at The News-Journal in Daytona Beach, Fla., the Daily Freeman in Kingston and the Woodstock Times. In addition to technology, he's also specialized in environmental issues, wildlife and natural resources. For most of the 1990s, R.J. was a senior writer and editor for Pacific Stars and Stripes in Tokyo, dealing with heads of government, international issues, the military and culture throughout the Asia-Pacific region. He attended the College of Forestry and Environmental Science at Syracuse University, and is a graduate of SUNY New Paltz with a degree in English and Asian Studies. An Army veteran, R.J. was an intelligence analyst during the Vietnam War.
