Obama can’t unify country when liberals refuse to compromise

Interesting to hear that the Philadelphia Daily News has endorsed Obama over Clinton [April 17]. The reason? Obama can unify the country! Exactly how, they would not say. Who would be unified was also not discussed. Apparently Obama has an innate ability to bring together all of the ’60s radicals that now dominate the Democrat Party, and all the conservative and moderate voters in this country.

Those of us on the right who are affected on a daily basis by liberal policies (high cost of fuel, food and taxes, to name a few), and find it impossible to hold a civilized discussion with liberals, are totally perplexed as to how either Clinton or Obama can unify anything. Obama, in one breath, says unequivocally that the Second Amendment of the Constitution grants an “individual right,” but then adds the caveat that the states have the right to impose their own rules. Will he be able to unify those of us that believe the Constitution can not be trumped by anything or anyone? Doubtful, since he considers it a trivial document. I’m sure the media wouldn’t mind hearing that said about the First Amendment.

Hillary, much like her husband, can’t help but lie whenever it’s convenient, so it seems far-fetched that she can unify anything but her own collection of enablers. Few on the right in this country appreciate Jimmy Carter prancing around the world as a self-appointed U.S. ambassador and meddler in official U.S. policy. No living ex-Republican president, at least in my lifetime, has ever interfered or commented on a sitting liberal president’s administration. Why can’t respect and basic decency be part the Democratic Party?

Liberals in this country are simply too intransigent on the environment, immigration, birth, taxes, guns, child-rearing, education, energy, national defense and religion to ever reach common ground with conservatives. Courts, via liberal judges, are routinely used by the left as a means to litigate their will on us and nullify what takes place at the polling booth. I draw a blank when I try to find common ground on any significant issue we face in this country that could be the basis for unification. Bipartisanship to liberals simply means that they got their way. Unification is a fallacy. It’s not, and never has been, a priority of the left, contrary to their using it as a sound bite.

As long as Democrats believe this country should fundamentally shift to socialism, we will be solidly divided.

Hey Dave, by my math it's been Conservatives who have been running this country since, what, 1968 when the last real liberal was assassinated while running for President?

If you have a problem with their policies, I suggest you vote differently.

And what do you mean by "fundamentally shift to socialism" - social security? health care? public education? highway departments? public safety via police and fire departments?

Tell us which of those socialist programs you disagree with.
