This bill will construct a new database that will cross check all records be it DMV, insurance (homeowners, auto and health), hospital and health records, parking tickets & etc in order to better compile a risk assessment on each and every New Yorker. This new data will then be used to qualify individuals, to see if they are fit to drive a car or own firearms. Folks on prescription medication for certain mental conditions will be deemed higher risk and if their medical practitioners feel this person is a possible risk to the public or themselves, will recommend suspending or revoking their firearm and ammo permits. In extreme cases, confiscation of said firearms will be the reality -- all in the name of protecting society. All this bill will do is penalize citizens with mental disabilities. Have any idea how many veterans are on meds? The other nasty part of this bill will be to identify all gun owners and expose them to insurance companies who, in turn will re-access their policies and increase their premiums. First they came after our guns, next they will come after our dogs. This played out many times in history, it is not new. Now it is our turn.

So much for bypassing public comment using "message of necessity" to bypass normal legislative procedures that are strictly followed on hundreds of bills each legislative session. Taxation without representation is back! When will these politicians ever figure out that they are supposed to represent the people, not try to further their political careers?

This is a travesty to put it lightly. I am sick of the way government works. The down state ignorant, stupid and most important ill informed and uneducated attitude has shown it's hand. Instead of going after the criminals is MUCH EASIER to further Restrict the LEGAL and LAW-ABIDING people who own firearms. Why? Because the politicians KNOW they (LAW-ABIDING) citizens will follow the law and by passing such laws they can say "look what we did". These laws will do nothing to decrease gun violence. The politicians who sided with these gun laws should be replaced with people who are willing to educate them selves on topics before they vote. It is clear they did not in this case.

I have a feeling that much of it will be overturned, because it makes no sense to those on either side of the argument.

"This is not a scientific poll." In other words, it has no statistical validity. All the ones that do say the opposite.

This law has more to do with the Governor adding to his resume than to deal with the atrocities that are taking place in our country. How would this law had stopped the last shooting? The guns used were purchased legally, the mother of the shooter owned them. It was obvious that he had some serious mental problems, which I am sure his family was aware of, but still he had access to the weapons. It seems a waste of time to me to enact law after law, when the laws we have now are not being enforced or if they are enforced, the courts works some kind of deal with the criminal. The only ones that will abide by these new law are the law abiding citizens, the criminal element will not care, look at our drug law, we know they work, there are no drugs in New York.
