With NO pay increase for teachers and administrators. Stop with all of the two week vacations. If a bank is open school should be open and have a 30 day summer vacation.
I don't see it as a teacher pay issue, nor do I begrudge them a decent salary. We pay far less deserving professions far more. Rather, I see it as a learning issue. A somewhat longer school year with shorter vacation periods interspersed throughout the year would remove the long summer off when many students lose too much of what they've learned. The current calendar was implemented when we were an agrarian economy and children were needed in the farm fields. We need a calendar that serves today's educational imperatives.
NO,NO,NO Learning issue my neck tie. It's another way for the tax payer has to pay. We as a society are NOT in the business of DAY CARE!and raising kids so parents can do what ever. The parents should be held accountable for HOMEWORK assignments!!! And hold the student accountable for homework as well. ACCOUNTABILITY! Somehow we have lost sight of ACCOUNTABILITY. Put the onus where it belongs,on the parents! And STOP blaming the teachers or some other entity. Where does the Governor expect to get the money to pay for this? Sooner or later it will be passed on down to the property owners, enough is enough period.
