Just as voting Republican for president in NY State is a waste - Electoral votes will go Democrat - so is it futile to vote against the school budget. But, I still want my vote to be counted.

MDogsMom - I don't live in Schenectady, so I missed that. That must have been a real shot in the arm for the city taxpayers, seriously. Too bad there are too many taxpayers that believe they must vote for the budget because..."It's for the children...our future."
We have had three children go through public schools, and have watched over 17 years school taxes go through the roof. Yet every time it came time to vote for the budget, we were voting for new buses, a new furnace, new linoleum, etc. We couldn't vote on what we really wanted to vote on. A bloated administrative office, rich staff pensions and benefits.
I'll be voting, but not for anything that will really make a difference...

Massachusetts allows residents to vote on school budget line items. Perhaps this is why MA schools budgets come in at a lower cost per pupil compared to NY. No bloated salaries in MA despite the higher cost of living in suburban Boston and higher union wages. Perhaps residents in Schdy should demand the school budget be broken down to several line item votes- that are important to tax payers and parents with kids in school- Admin/salaries/benefits- and Capital Improvements/Building Operations costs etc.
