Ford was busy doing his thing as Minority Leader in the House of Representatives when he was asked to become Vice President after Agnew resigned in disgrace. Then he became President after Nixon resigned in disgrace. I would have loved the chance to talk with him about what it was like to assume such respected offices under the clouds he did.

My (very) unscientific take on the voters reasoning for these poll results....as of 6:00AM 1/22/11:
. Barack Obama 13%... mostly liberal or ethnic folks still enraptured by his newness and the novelty of the first Black President. This will fade with time and the wider acknowledgment of his ineptitude.
. George W. Bush 6%... mostly from folks who see his courage, commitment and convictions as great, long before the Historians have to climb on board.
. Bill Clinton 8%...mostly from either those who idolized the most popular guy in school for his looks rather than his substance, or frustrated housewives for...well you know.
. George H. W. Bush 1%... folks who know he was a true National hero, a kind man that history will recognize as never getting the recognition he is due.
. Ronald Reagan 28%...mostly folks keenly aware that he is indeed one of the two most important Presidents of the 20th century. A Great American.
. Jimmy Carter 4%...these folks must lionize abject failure as some strange accomplishment....
. Gerald Ford 2%...nice guy...perfect vice president material...President, not so much.
. Richard Nixon 1%...these folks must really take a liking to scoundrels.
. John F. Kennedy 27%...these folks are typical of my generation, enamored with all things 'Camelot'...the reality is they are more in love with what "might" have been than true substance and the abilities of a flawed husband and man.
. Dwight D. Eisenhower 7%...folks who correctly see the successes of President Eisenhower's tenure, his war hero accomplishments and realize he deserves accolades ...but given the almost perfect economic climate he served in...it steals some of the luster.
