I voted "No". But I think that owners of ALL dogs should have to have insurance.
Insurance actuarials will determine how much a policy will cost, based on the breed, the individual animals' history and the owners' history as well. We require the operators of motor vehicles to have insurance when they bring potentially dangerous equipment into the public arena. Time to extend that requirement to potentially dangerous animals too.
Animals shouldn't need to be licensed...the OWNERS should. The government should set guidelines and criteria that should be met before any individual is allowed to own an animal. Those criteria should include financial, social and educational parameters stringent enough to weed out fools incapable of good judgment.
It should then be instituted for people thinking of having sex.
I believe, as a true American patriot, that dogs and dog owners should be free to do whatever they want, whenever they want. This is a free country!! The only restriction should be that whatever they do must be done 7 to 10 feet under the Mohawk river. They could there form a commune and rats, squirrels and roaches encouraged to join them. Even Republicans.
Pit bull terriers are so misunderstood. I have had one for 12 years and she's been nothing but sweet to everyone. She was a year old when I got her and they didn't tell me she was a pitbull until I had been with her for about a half hour. When they told me I jumped, but then realized how great she had been and I brought her home. I never yell at her. I never spank her. So, she has no fear of people and loves them. I cannot imagine having a dog like this banned. Ban the abusive owners!
I am truly sorry that I have offended some by my previous posting suggesting that the biting, barking and overproduction of feces, so characteristic of dogs and Republicans, should be restricted to the lower depths of the Mohawk.
ahhh...once again the hypocritical nature of the average tree hugging liberal Democrat raises it's ugly specter via seikena's latest post. We can't drill for oil, we can't burn coal and we can not drill for natural gas in New York, but we CAN pollute the Mohawk River with feces and rotting dog carcasses along with the decaying flesh of deceased Republicans. I guess environmental regulations only apply when they benefit Democrat agendas.....

Specific breeds of dogs should not be banned. Animal leash/restraint laws should be strengthened and enforced more strictly.

...see...my point about a license to pro-create is proven true in the very next comment following my 8/27/2011 post!

Start putting down(euthanizing) bad owners with their bad dogs and I guarantee you stop seeing bad dogs.
