There has been no pay raise for judges in New York since 1999. The average salary of about $136,000 is far less than well-qualified candidates could earn in private practice. If we want the best sitting on our benches, we have to be willing to compensate them for their experience and talents.

We can't afford it. I am making the equivalent or less than what I was making in 1992, there has to be a point of being rational. Public servants should not be making that kind of money. Ever. That is part of public service, not a money maker like it is today. It has to stop somewhere. Why should I be supporting this system when I am making and doing with less. That is reality.
