No, this should not be a matter of convenience. Just because we have an influx of people coming over the border from Mexico, shouldn't force us to change our constitution. What we need to do is enforce the laws we have. They are plain and quite clear.

The law requires you to be a Legal Citizen or Legal Alien to be here. So when giving birth here and you are illegal should make it ILLEGAL. The Arizona Law should already be upheld in this Country. To come here to have a baby just to have them be Citizens and then leave or not become a Citizen yourself is wrong. How can you raise an American Citizen when you are here illegally?

I think an amendment is needed. Something like the parents must live in this country LEGALLY for two years prior to the child being born.We need to enforce quotas on immigrants from all foreign countries, especially countries with terrorist attacks on US soil!!! The melting pot has exploded!

I very much agree with howieonline and maggy. I know for a fact,there have been illegals that came to this country to give birth just so they and the child will be able to stay here because the child (now a citizen of the USA) needs a parent to raise the child and is then allowed to stay here. What is up with this system? Who pays for that?

UNTIL 1982 CHILDREN BORN OF ILLEGAL ALIENS WERE NOT AUTOMATICALLY GRANTED CITIZENSHIP. JUSTICE BRENNEN ADDED A FOOTNOTE TO A RULING STATING THAT THERE WOULD BE NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN CHILDREN BORN TO LEGAL AND ILLEGAL RESIDENTS. UP UNTIL THAT DATE ONLY CHILDREN OF PERMANENT LEGAL RESIDENTS GAINFULLY EMPLOYED WOULD BE GRANTED CITIZENSHIP. THIS CHANGE CAUSED THE SO CALLED ANCHOR BABY PROBLEM. ANOTHER EXAMPLE HOW THE LIBERAL WING OF THE SUPREME COURT CHANGED THE ORIGINAL INTENT OF THE 14TH AMENDMENT WHICH GRANTED CITIZENSHIP TO THE FREED SLAVES.

It might be more useful to reconsider NAFTA, GATT and the trade policies that devastated the rural economies of Mexico and Central America, driving farmers off their land, first to the maquiladoras, and now, when those factories have been abandoned in pursuit of even cheaper labor, to the US. Where as illegals they can be intimidated into accepting substandard wages. It's always about wealth and a docile workforce. Let's leave the constitution alone and concentrate on containing corporate power.

However it is done, the granting of citizenship to children of illegal immigrants born in the US should be ended ASAP.

Look... the country has already sunk so low, does it really matter?
