Most Schenectady School Board members have not acted in the interest of the students or the taxpayers. Last June, Maxine Brisport was the ONLY school board member who argued that it was premature to extend contracts with a criminal investigation pending. The other board members voted within a minute to support Eli and several other key players in this sordid drama by extending contracts an extra bonus year, even though contracts still had a year to go and there was no hurry.
Now the taxpayers will be spending money to buy out these contracts or pay legal fees to get out of them. I'd say the Schenectady School Board has acted arrogantly and irresponsibly- and I have a feeling there is more to uncover in this story.
The individuals who stood up to Mr. Raucci did a great public service as this trial is a catalyst for some major changes. Schenectady's can of worms is open now for all to see. And hopefully to deal with.

We can only hope that the trial evidence provided some way to void Ely's contract without it costing the taxpayers a mint. But, since Ely obviously knows how to write a resume and interview and he was able to do what the trial showed he did, I'm guessing his contract is darn good about things like misconduct.
