Thank you Governor Paterson for not bothering to trust the citizens of New York to pick their own elected....i'm sorry....SELECTED representatives. I hope you're happy being a 3/4 term Governor.
Good Luck Senator Gillibrand, i have NOTHING against you.

From what I gathered at the press conference, there will be a special election in 2010, then another in 2012. However, I do agree that the people should decide and one special election now would be less expensive and the people would have an immediate voice. At least in New York, people weren't paying for the seat, as far as we all know. I think Senator Gillibrand is an honest person, and wish her well.

Dranon and annarondac....this isn't a the matter of "win" or "lose" in an election.
I am talking about the general attitude that government always knows better than the citizens of the state/country. The "elected" officials of this state have an attitude of a "nanny-state" i.e. that they (the government) should be taking care of us from cradle to grave. Apparantly that now includes whom our representatives should be.
There should be a grassroots push for a change in the law that controls the replacement of elected officials for whatever reason.
The attitude of "win vs. lose" shows that people are more interested in the power of government going to the parties instead of them being elected what what it should be: doing the work of the people.

As an outsider who is a Rats fan who lives almost 900 miles to the south of all of you ( in NC)when one looks at who your governor chose verses who was trying to get the job ( princess caroline, and etc) I really don't think upstate NY nor the rest of your state got screwed over as some of you feel or make her appointment out to be. In NY state as here in NC we too have many elected officals state wide as well as federally (house and senate) who don't ever seem to have the time for "we the people"...but if you be nekid, with a 50-100 grand check in your teeth, they seem to have all kinds of time for ya. As a kid who grew up in chicago, i do know first hand about machine politics of the 50's and 60's..for some they were good times, for others it sucked. Again it was who you knew or were connected with. take the time to get,to be, and stay informed. don't be afraid to network with others in your respective communitees. Write call and flood the editor's of the gazette and the Albany papers...bug your state house goons till they they surrender...if you don't, then when things really get bad there in beautiful upstate area of the vally, you aint no one but yourselves to blame. Keep the fire to their feet...check out Lou Dobbs on his radio and tv shows...you'll get straight talk, information...so you know who to go after...Not a shameless plug mind you, but a suggestion so that you as well as others can and be a nation of laws, and have self rule as it was intended to be. have a great week folks, enjoy what you have, as there are people in NY State who alot less than you do...Go Rats !!

hey dranon....for your information.....there is more to life than "right wing" or "left wing." I am a Libertarian, so you can't put me in your nice little boxes. We're the party that thinks outside the box, and want EVERYBODY'S liberties back.
and just a grammatical correction...the quote is "...Fall by the WAYSIDE"....not "WASTESIDE"

Have you noticed that dranon does not like anyone who does not agree with him or her? For someone (I assume he/she is a Democrat) who has won the election, seems to be a bit angry at the world. I quit the Republican party 3 years ago. I like Gillibrand because I want to keep my guns, especially during these times!

Hey dranon,
if you going to call my credentials into question (as in "fake sgt") i hope that you've spent the last 25 years defending the nation like i have.
Again, your attitude of "won versus lost" is pathetic. That attitude shows partisan self interest, instead of the interest in what's best for the entire country.
And i stand by my "wayside" correction. Look it up.
