700 Billion here, 839 billion there - pretty soon we're talking about real money! This is nothing more than a giant slush fund that has mortgaged our grandchildren's future. But it's a "grave crisis" so we can't question anything. Give me a break!

Hmmmmmm. Interesting.

The Gazette cut some 20 loyal employees two months ago, and many more before that, and now they are hiring a NEW business reporter, everyone.

All the stimulus in the world isn't going to help when companies like the Gazette put their employees out like yesterday's trash.

I'll keep looking at your free Web site, but I have absolutely no interest in purchasing your lackluster newspaper.

I suspect I'm not alone.

The people that are so angry right now, are the people, with the same mind-set that helped get our country in this mess in the first place. I thank the stars every minute that McCain is not our President. Bush Administration GAVE our money away and you're complaining about this??? Ridiculous!!!!

Looks like Obama's formula is pretty transparent: If it worked for Reagan, ignore it. If it backfired on FDR, embrace it.

How much did Bush give away in a no bid contract to Halliburton, which seems to have become a black hole in accountability?

Once you remove the hyperbole and frenetic babbling from posts written by liberals, you end up understanding how an empty suit like Obama was elected. Where facts are supposed to be, there is a vacuum, and we know Mother Nature abhors a vacuum, so liberals fill it with caca hoping somehow, somewhere other like-minded people will see it, and think it's meaningful. The economic meltdown was created by Jimmy Carter, pursued with a vengeance by Bill Clinton, and coddled in Congress by Miss Barney Frank. It's called, "Why is my Fannie Mae going the way of my Freddie Mac?" And the response is...come on, you know it..."because liberals decided to lend trillions to people who couldn't pay the money back."

Now, don't you left-leaning vacuum packed lefties feel better? Probably not. You certainly never let the facts get in the way of your whining and Bush-bashing orgies.

For some reason, a lot of conservatives seem to mix up fiscal conservatism with social conservatism. The truth is, Republicans have historically ruined the economy, sending the national debt skyrocketing, as is shown here - http://www.lafn.org/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart...

I don't have complete confidence with the stimulus bill, but from what I've read by economists, they're pretty impressed, so I'll have to accept that for now.

And I have far more confidence with an actually smart, hard-working president like Obama, when compared to Bush, who truly did get us into this mess.

I think its time we vote all the crooks in the Senate and Congress out of office. Lets start over and ban all lobbyist from Washington. Then our new president the fellow for change ? Lets see 3 or 4 of his appointment don't pay taxes. What kind of change is that ? They are all corrupt every single one. But then again they think all is ok because we keep putting these corrupt people back in office. So i guess we deserve what we get, thats the shocking part of all this.

I have little confidence in the Recovery Act because its too small. Paul Klugman and most other economists I've read want the package doubled. Then you have the usual assortment of wacko Republicans who don't understand economics or don't care - they just want tax cuts so they can spend the money on themselves while they wound the country. On occasion you get folks like PJFasco who condemn liberals for not providing facts and then he provides Republican talking points that have no connection to reality at all.
We know the cause of this depression - Republican fiscal irresponsibility, incompetence, irrational support for business, deregulation, and hypocrisy

So Democrats want to spend lots of money from tax payers pockets and the Republicans want to keep it for themselves to spend. I'll go for keeping all my money for me and all you others who want to give to government, do so freely! Problem solved.

Bottom line... According to this blog we haven't had a good president since George.... Washington, that is. So let's change the system. Let's allow a dictator to rise to power. That way all this absurd garbage being spewed on this blog will be outlawed. It worked for Hilter, Mao, The Czar, Ludwig. But remember, only one of those guys to died of old age. Mao. As soon as he did, everyone in China began moving toward capitalism. Now we have a leader sprinting down the path of socialism. When has that system ever been successful? When Market Forces are allowed to work, the economy thrives. When we tinker with it (think housing bubble) it ALWAYS fails. If everyone would read history beyond the past three presidents they might understand that.

When Castro came to power, everyone thought of him as a great speaker, an even greater visionary. Already, I have read comparisons to our current president. Not only looking to our past for answers, of which socialism has never worked, we are leveraging our future for today's perks. What is to say that our children or grandchildren will not meet demise for today's money grab? The real problem is government has become so big society can't afford it anymore and we are now stealing from the future.

We seem to be forgetting a couple of things. First, that our elected officials are in office to serve all the people, not just the ones who voted for them. Secondly, that classical liberalism is defined by its adherence to laissez faire economics. What we're seeing recently is socialism, not liberalism. It's OK to support that if you wish, but we should be clear.

It's amazing how few of the comments here have to do with the question, "How much confidence do you have that the massive stimulus bill will help jump-start the economy?" For all of you conservatives out there, I have a newsflash. Your policies failed. Your politicians failed. You can dittohead all you want about the horrors of "socialism" (I put that in scare quotes because I urge every one of you to look the word up in the dictionary and see how it doesn't apply to our current reality.) Rush Limbaugh rails against the coming change much in the same way that the ugly fat kid rails against every girl who ever turned him down for a date. But the fact is, we Americans voted for change because it was obvious that your policies were policies of massive failure. The margins were large enough that there is no room for dispute: you lost. Now go sulk in a corner with your thumbs in your mouths, while the rest of us roll up our sleeves and get to work undoing the disaster you brought on.

Conservatism did not fail, Republican moderation failed. When Bush did the tax cuts - we saw across the board success for nearly 4 straight years without any blimp in the system. This crisis was started by the democrats with all of their "everyone should have a house bullcrap". We need to cut the capital gains tax, we need to cut corporate tax rates, we need to cut taxrates for EVERYONE by several percent, especially the rich.

Conservatism has always succeeded.
Liberalism-Socialism has always failed. Look at history for a change.

When will people learn you can't fix debt with debt! People need to stop spending more than they earn. We have become way too materialistic in our country. Democrats want everyone to be "equal" sorry, but God set up this world to be the survival of the fittest, if you want something, work for it!

I'm amused by the democrats on this board who cry, "We won, you lost, so live with it," while 69% of the respondants to this poll have very little confidence that the stimulus package will work. Seems as though they don't speak for their entire party, after all.
