Everyone is responsible for their own wellbeing. SS is designed to be supplemental income, meaning you should have enough funds through savings or pension to support yourself through retirement without SS benefits.

If you depend on SS to survive, then something went wrong in the game of life.

the cost of living is determined every year in October for the money for the following year. How can they say "no" when it is not yet Oct. and how can they predict what will happen in Oct. 2010?? I wish people would get it thru their thick heads that we seniors worked and paid into the system. As a widow, my husband and I both paid in, but I only get one check, his was lost. I don't consider myself a freeloader!!

Social Security is not welfare. It is a fund that we were forced to pay into, with the promise that they would invest our money wisely, and return it to us with interest, when we retire.

If I had privately invested the same money they took from me over the last 50 years, I would be doing quite well.

In short, I want my money back. The money that you promised you would safe keep, and invest for me.

Fritzdawg. That isn't how SS works.

Your money isn't collecting interest, and it's not sitting in an account waiting for you to retire and collect off of it. It isn't being invested. That is YOUR responsibility to do on your own.
