There are many better uses for stimulus monies than making the car dealers rich.

They should have been written in this bill that only American Cars would qualify.

I agree with both of you. If your going to do this only let American made products reap the benefits. But at the same time aren't there betters ways to stimulate the economy like help create jobs so people can spend money.

I thought that this was a way to keep the car companies in business!! When all of these car dealers are shutting down...everyone complained. Obama comes up with a way to help some people keep their jobs and you're still complaining, while consumers are still reaping the benefits. Why don't you do something about what's going on and be quiet and let the man do his job! Good Lawd - God Bless America!!!

And mean while were does this stimulus money come from?
I agree to helping car companies stay open. But why help foreign cars companies, their not hurting like American. And only a slim few consumers are reaping the benefits. Not the 10% of America that has no job, let alone have a car to trade in.

Did it ever occur to you, fotogirl, that the "foreign" cars are probably manufactured in the United States by autoworkers that are lucky enough to have held onto their jobs and sold in communities that are in the United States and are helping to prevent whichever dealership they are being sold from to prevent being shutting down? Not to mention the tax revenue they generate. Not every program is going to help every single person down-and-out, but let's cheer the ones that do add something.

And where do you suppose the money for this clunkers program is coming from. YOUR TAXES, do you mind paying more taxes. From an already stretched budget, that is already in debt. I sure don't. Does this help the repair shops that work on these older cars that are being traded in. Not that they shouldn't be taken off the road eventually, do you think this this helps the mechanics in these shops. There is a evolutionary role that needs to be played out. Just like in the environment, too much of one thing all at once hurts the balance. Our society works just the same. These stimulus ideas are ok, but need to be more thought out for the long run not just right now. Everything we do has a butterfly effect. And we need to think before we do.

I agree with one of the comments earlier that the "cash for clunkers" should have been for american made vehicles only. Would that have given the "Made in USA vehicles" a shot in the arm?
