What should the state do to replace Lt. Gov. David Paterson once he becomes governor?

Gov. Paterson should be allowed to appoint his replacement 34% 143 votes
State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno - third in the state's chain of succession - should serve in the position 30% 123 votes
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver - who will become the state's second-highest ranking Democrat - should serve in the position 3% 15 votes
The job should remain vacant until the next general election 15% 65 votes
The job should remain vacant until the governor's job is next on the ballot in 2010 15% 64 votes

It wouldn't be a bad idea to let Paterson appoint someone, but that wouldn't be legal under the current system -- that's not what's in the state constitution.

I think NY constitution should be changed to be the same as the US constitution. When the VP leaves or becomes President the VP is replaced by the President nominating a replacement and the Senate confirming the replacement.
