We do not exchange gifts. That's not what Christmas is about, but we're going skiing and thanking God for all the great snow! Swooosh swoosh!

Christmas has never been about "how much we're spending" - our parents taught us when we were very young the meaning of Christmas. It's not about giving/getting more than your neighbor - it's about how much you can HELP your neighbor, and those less fortunate.
Instead of going "skiing", did you go to Church by any chance - maybe to thank your God for all he has done?
