Mayor Owen M. Begley scrapbook
Owen M. Begley was honored to become mayor of Schenectady. “But with that honor comes many responsibilities,” Begley said, after taking the oath of office on Jan. 1, 1948. “I hope that in the performance of the duties of that office I will prove worthy of the confidence that you people of Schenectady have placed in me.” Begley served two two-year terms, and was succeeded in 1952 by Republican Archibald Wemple. During his tenure as mayor, Begley appeared in dozens of newspaper photos with friends and citizens. Posted on February 3, 2014.
