As the ALS Association's Ice Bucket Challenge continues to go viral, it arrived in The Daily Gazette's backyard Aug. 18, 2014 when Lance Geda, vice president of finance, stepped up to the plate. According to ALS, the Ice Bucket Challenge involves people getting doused with buckets of ice water on video, posting that video to social media, then nominating others to do the same, all in an effort to raise ALS awareness. Those who refuse to take the challenge are asked to make a donation to the ALS charity of their choice. As of Aug. 16, more than $10 million had been raised for ALS via the Ice Bucket Challenge. The ice water was courtesy of an employee picnic, held to launch the paper's new circulation initiative.
