Clifford Edward Fritzen, 5, and sister Janet, 7, found two ways to keep cool — Popsicles and pond water. The kids spent part of Aug. 30, when the temperature reached 95 degrees, in the Steinmetz Park Pond.
The 44-acre Steinmetz Park in the northern end of Schenectady is undergoing a $600,000 facelift. Work includes a new pavilion and renovations to the existing building along Lenox Road. Included in this gallery are photos from the 1950s of kids swimming in the pond.
