Donald Mason and his friends were ready to take on the world. They were young, good-looking teenagers at Draper High School in Rotterdam. They were ready for leadership, as they had just been selected to lead the student council during the 1969-1970 school year.
And while some teens were preparing to close their books until September, Jo-An Palkovic and her colleagues at Mont Pleasant High School were hoping classmates would keep at least one book open. Jo-An had recently finished editing the “Mountaineer” yearbook, and kids all over school were signing pages — and signing off for the school year.
