It was a little too early for ice in Schenectady on Thursday, Nov. 18, 1982. Glen Gibbs would have disagreed — he felt pretty frosty when he took a late autumn swim on Front Street. The city of Schenectady dedicated its new swimming pool in the neighborhood that day and Glen, a member of the city’s Planning Department, either volunteered or was ordered to try out the brand new outdoor bathtub. Neighborhood watches, community boosters, skiing fans, school personnel, local clergymen and a group of Elks were also in the news 30 years ago this month.
