November 1982 Scrapbook
It was a little too early for ice in Schenectady on Thursday, Nov. 18, 1982. Glen Gibbs would have disagreed — he felt pretty frosty when he took a late autumn swim on Front Street. The city of Schenectady dedicated its new swimming pool in the neighborhood that day and Glen, a member of the city’s Planning Department, either volunteered or was ordered to try out the brand new outdoor bathtub. Neighborhood watches, community boosters, skiing fans, school personnel, local clergymen and a group of Elks were also in the news 30 years ago this month. Posted on November 26, 2012.
Everyone has a good laugh as Glen Gibbs of the city of Schenectady’s Planning Department tests the ice-cold waters of the new Front Street swimming pool on Nov. 18, 1982. The pool was dedicated that day; it probably was warmer when it opened for business during the summer of 1983.
