Images from 2012 Photo Regional
About half of the 52 artworks at this year's Photo Regional at the Opalka Gallery are fairly straightforward, but the other half are a mix of digital collage, video, mixed-media, images made with surveillance cameras, and lenticular Plexiglas. It’s a bit mechanical and emotionless for those of us who don’t understand these technical processes. Posted on March 22, 2012.
“Map Reading Near Baggy Point” is a detail from a panorama print by Kahn & Selesnick. The artist team creates images that look historic but are really fictitious.
Georgia Wohsen is inspired by the Adirondack landscape where she grew up. In “Boys and Bears,” the image changes as it’s viewed from different angles.
Kyra Garrigue’s digital video, “Listening (and Watching),” focuses intently on the sounds of breathing and swallowing as we look at images of a female neck and throat.
