George Morgan sits on the front steps of Ventfort Hall with one of his grandchildren and the family dog in this historic photo taken sometime between 1893 and 1900.
Ventfort Hall in Lenox, Mass., was the 1893 home of George and Sarah Morgan, and now houses the Museum of the Gilded Age, a period in American history generally covering the second half of the 19th century. It was a time when rich and prominent American families, such as the Morgans, the Duponts and the Vanderbilts, to name a few, began looking for summer homes away from the major population centers of New York City and Boston.
