Irish eyes smile during the middle of March. Scottish eyes smile near the end of August.
The sons and daughters of the former group wear their green around St. Patrick’s Day. The dancers and pipers of the latter wear their tartan plaids for the long-running Capital District Scottish Games, held in late summer.
This year’s Games take place Saturday and Sunday at the Altamont Fairgrounds. Piping, drumming and dancing are on the agenda. Stage bands, exhibits by Scottish clans and societies and jewelry and gift sales are other planned diversions. Posted on August 25, 2008.

Schenectady dancers Glenda Black and Ivan Liscum, medalists in U.S. and Canadian competitions, limber up in anticipation of winning more at the local competition at the former American Locomotive Club grounds.
Grace Graham, 8, was one of the youngest dancers. The daughter of William Graham, chief of Games sponsor Clan MacRae, was born in Scotland. The Grahams moved to America in 1948.
