Stephanie Rowland, left, and Sarah Lokey measure basil plants grown from seeds that went into space in August 2007 aboard the space shttle Endeavour. The project is part of a NASA experiment that compares the growth rate of plants grown from “space” seeds versus seeds that remained on earth. The results will help NASA determine the viability of growing plants that will help feed astronauts during future long-term missions to Mars and the moon. Both girls are seniors.
