Bill Paulsen Jr. owns his own golf course, but he plays some of his best rounds away from home. The general manager/owner of Eagle Crest Golf Club won his sixth straight Saratoga County Amateur senior division crown last weekend with a 73 at The Edison Club to win by seven shots. The opening round, scheduled for his own course, was rained out.

ALS tourney's future uncertain

One of the most successful charity golf tournaments in the Capital Region is going through a transition phase. The 24th annual ALS Mem­orial has raised an almost unbelievable $1,378,000 in net proceeds for the ALS Regional Center at St. Peter’s Hospital, including $127,000 last year, but co-chairman Scott Daly is concerned about what will happen after this year’s popular event is held June 25 at Van Patten Golf Course.

While on vacation last week, I was extremely interested in the finale of GolfChannel’s “Big Break Florida” series, which had a local link. Jackie (Barenborg) Stoelting of Vero Beach, Fla., daughter of Niskayuna native Ed Barenborg, won the 21st edition of the reality series/golf skills competition by defeating Flamma Felitch of Oklahoma City, 4-and-3.
