— The 12th Annual Say Goodbye to Cancer fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at Katie O’Byrne’s Restaurant, located at 121 Wall St.

The event was started by Stacy Eder, a cancer survivor, with the mission of helping other cancer patients by providing “some joy and financial relief for the family,” according to a prepared statement.

This year’s recipient is Ben Longale and his family. Ben was born with biliary atresia, a rare liver disease, and had his first surgery when he was 12 days old, according to a prepared statement. When that surgery failed, he received a liver transplant at the age of six months.

In November of 2014, he was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma and went through six months of intense chemotherapy, according to the prepared statement. He has been in remission for six months, but the process left him in need of another liver transplant in the near future.

Saturday’s event, which will continue until 10 p.m., costs $20 per person and includes barbecue fare, beer, wine, soda and live entertainment.

Tickets will be available at the door, and there will be prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

Those who wish to donate raffle prizes or other services to the Longale family are encouraged to contact Eder at 986-4589, or email her at
