— Several purchase offers have been made for the equipment and rides at Hoffman’s Playland, prompting owners to postpone an auction scheduled to take place after the park closes permanently.

Attorney Donald Zee said the offers that have been put on the table do no involve reopening the amusement park on the same site. The land is expected to be redeveloped for retail and business purposes.

The 18-ride park has been a popular destination since it opened in 1952. Owners David and Ruth Hoffman announced last year that they were hoping to retire soon. Potential buyers, including Guptill’s Arena — a roller-skating rink located a few miles north on Route 9 — opted not to purchase the business.

The park is scheduled to close for good on Sept. 14.
