NY AG Schneiderman nominated for 2nd term

MELVILLE, N.Y. — New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has been nominated for a second term by the state Democratic Party.

Schneiderman won the endorsement Wednesday at the state Democratic Convention on Long Island. He faces John Cahill, a former top aide to former Gov. George Pataki, in the fall election.

The 59-year-old says he's worked to go after corruption and fraudulent business practices while protecting the rights of citizens. Schneiderman is a former state lawmaker who was elected the state's top law enforcement official in 2010.

Schneiderman's nomination was seconded by Shantel Walker, a 32-year-old Brooklyn pizzeria employee who said Schneiderman has stood up for the working class.

Cahill, who was nominated last week by the state GOP, has said Schneiderman hasn't done enough to go after government corruption.
