ROCHESTER The Seneca Nation of Indians says it won't try to get approval for a casino on a 32-acre site it recently purchased in a Rochester suburb.
Local media report that Seneca President Barry Snyder Jr. wrote a letter last week to Monroe County officials informing them that the tribe "will not pursue the siting of a casino development project" in the town of Henrietta at this time.
Snyder wrote that the Senecas won't pursue a casino without local and state support.
The tribe bought land near Thruway Exit 46 in early March but said it had no specific plans for the site. On March 19, the town board approved a resolution opposing a casino in the town after many residents came out against it.
