School Softball: Mahar leads Sabres past Blackbirds, 9-0

Pitcher Lauren Mahar struck out 17 to close in on a school record, leading Schalmont to a 9-0 Colonial Council victory over Voorheesville on Wednesday.

Mahar, who tossed a two-hitter in going the distance, has 508 career strikeouts. She needs six to break the school mark of 513.

She also had a double, single and RBI for the Sabres (11-4 CC, 14-5 overall).

Emilie Decker had a double, three singles and three RBI for Schalmont. Julia Longo added a double and single.

Fonda-Fultonville scored four runs in the top of the seventh to snap a 3-3 tie and beat Albany Academy for Girls, 7-3.

Bryanna Holdridge had two doubles, a single and an RBI as Cohoes defeated Ichabod Crane, 9-2.

Sam Schermerhorn and Isabelle DeChairo each had a double, single and an RBI for Cohoes.

Lilly Maggs had a double, single and an RBI as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake captured a 2-0 Suburban Council win over Saratoga Springs.

Meghan Cullen and Bri Skpowski added two hits each for the Spartans.

Guilderland scored a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to rally for a 4-3 victory over Averill Park. Torie Rathwell had a double and single for the Lady Dutch.

Eileen Seery added two singles, and Gabby Marino had a double and an RBI.

Marissa Shultes had a double among her four hits and drove in two runs as Colonie scored all of its runs in the top of the seventh to rally for an 8-4 win over Mohonasen.

Lexi Szesnat added a triple and two singles for Colonie, which trailed, 3-0, entering the seventh. Lauren Graves had two singles.

Maria Patterson drove in two runs for the Mighty Warriors with a double and single. Mickenzie Tortorici contributed a triple and single.

Three Shenedehowa players drove in two runs apiece in a 9-4 triumph over Niskayuna. Melissa Nealon had a double and single, Taylor Fitzgerald had two singles and Kelly Barkevich doubled.

Stacy Gordon had two singles for the Silver Warriors.

KK Palmerino scored a run and drove in another in Bethlehem’s 2-1 victory over Columbia.

Sammy Montague drove in four runs with a double and two singles, powering Scotia-Glenville to a 7-1 Foothills Council victory over Broadalbin-Perth.

Ali Stewart had a triple and double for the Tartans (11-2 FC, 12-2 overall). Zoie Purvis added two singles. Pitcher Maya Ferguson tossed a one-hitter.

Tori Powers went 4-for-4 with four RBI, leading Duanesburgh to an 11-0 win over

Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johns­ville in the Western Athletic Conference Cup title game.

Powers had two doubles and two singles, while Lia Schettine added a double and two singles.

Jordan Marshall and Kristina Auty drove in seven runs each, and Mackenzie Biggers had six RBI as Mayfield pounded Sharon Springs, 30-3, in a crossover game.

Marshall had three doubles and two singles, Auty had a triple, double and two singles and Biggers added a double and two singles.

Britney Whitford had three hits, and Marissa Charlebois added a double, single and two RBI as Hoosic Valley beat Hoosick Falls, 10-2, in the Wasaren League.

Liza Orsisi had triple, single and four RBI, and Cat Kelly homered and drove in two as Saratoga Central Catholic used a 13-run first inning to beat Berne-Knox-Westerlo, 16-0, in a non-league game.

Amelia Bielefeld drove in three runs.
