Fresh Market to open this morning in Saratoga Springs
SARATOGA SPRINGS Gourmet food lovers, put on your shopping shoes: The Fresh Market opens the doors to its brand-new Saratoga Springs store bright and early today at 8 a.m. — and it’s trumpeting giveaways.
The specialty grocery retailer will be giving away sample-sized bags of its gourmet coffee to the first 1,000 customers through the door and a reusable shopping bag to the first 500. There will be a number of grand-opening activities, as well, including chef demonstrations, food sampling and drawings for Fresh Market gift cards.
“We are excited to open our new store in Saratoga Springs and to expand our reach in New York,” said Fresh Market President and CEO Craig Carlock in a news release. “We look forward to introducing The Fresh Market’s concept of quality perishables, excellent customer service and a unique atmosphere to an expanding customer base, and we look forward to offering neighboring communities a rewarding new food shopping experience.”
The 24,000-square-foot store is located inside The Hamlet at Saratoga Springs shopping center at 52 Marion Ave. It will feature a bakery that promises 30 freshly baked breads and 14 pie varieties daily, a full-service meat counter with freshly made ground beef, fresh seafood delivered to the store several times a week, more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses, a produce department with more than 400 items, a large organic selection and ready-to-serve entrees. Many of the products will be from regional growers and producers.
“The Fresh Market’s inviting atmosphere is reminiscent of European markets,” Carlock said. “Our customers enjoy shopping in an environment that appeals to all the senses. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and bread right out of the oven, the sound of classical music, soft lighting with antique decor in an intimate setting and the ability to select and taste fresh, high-quality products all work together to create surroundings where customers are encouraged to experience the food.”
Founded in 1982 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Fresh Market has more than 100 stores in more than 20 states today.
The Saratoga Springs store will be the fourth Fresh Market in New York and the second in the Capital Region. The grocer opened a location in Latham in 2012.
The Saratoga store will employ about 90 people. Through a partnership with the Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council and Shelters of Saratoga, it will provide regular food donations to the local community.
