Track: Riders earn Colonial crown

With only one champion — Mark Korycinski in the 800-meter run — Ichabod Crane amassed enough points to win the Colonial Council boys’ championship on Tuesday.

Korycinski finished in 2:02.75 for the win and 10 points toward the Riders’ total of 98. Cobleskill-Richmondville was second with 92.5, and Fonda-Fultonville was third with 87.

Cobleskill-Richmondville’s Dan Thorington swept the weights, reaching 55-1 3⁄4 in the shot put and 139-5 in the discus.

Fonda’s Michael Sweet swept the hurdles, winning the 110 in 15.76 and 400 in 58.75.

Albany Academy’s Amara Steenburn led her team to the championship with wins in the 200 (26.70) and long jump (17-1 3⁄4). With a 13.17 in the 100, she also posted a second-place finish to Karra Douglas (12.91) of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Douglas was second in the 200, in 26.94.

Academy totaled 126 points to 104 for second-place Holy Names.

Leah Triller of Holy Names and Julia Flower of Schalmont traded first- and second-place finishes in the 1,500 and 3,000. Triller (2:14.37) beat Flower (2:18.06) in the 1,500, while Flower (4:42.00) hit the line ahead of Triller (4:46.10) in the 3,000.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Lindsay Therrien won the triple jump (34-4), high jump (5-0) and 100 hurdles (16.80) to help Fonda-Fultonville to 103 points and third place.

Albany won the Big 10 girls’ championship with 158 points, well ahead of second-place Amsterdam (93). Albany’s Eileen Bequette won the pole vault (9-6). She was second to teammate Tiara Gaines in the high jump, though both topped 5-0, and second to Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons’ Emily Brown (15-9) in the long jump at 15-4 1⁄2.

Adetol Lawal won three events as Duanesburg beat Canajoharie for the boys’ team title in the Western Athletic Conference championships at Fort Plain.

Canajoharie edged Middleburgh, 139-138, for the girls’ title.

Dainara Vedder took both hurdles for the Cougars. Middleburgh’s Amanda Roney won the 400, long jump and high jump.
