May 10 food drive will help fill pantries

As we all prepare to celebrate Mother’s Day, let us remember all the mothers who struggle to provide the basics of food and shelter for their children.

On May 10, the Post Office will be holding its national “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive. This drive helps provide food to those in need in Schenectady County.

In years past, citizens have worked together to make this drive a wonderful success. The people of Schenectady County have been extremely generous in their support of the drive, and postal workers cheerfully work just a bit harder on that day as they collect food to help fill the pantries.

The Schenectady County Food Providers, a group that includes local food pantries and feeding programs, will use the food collected to address the rising hunger challenge in our community.

On behalf of the Schenectady Country Food Providers (Bethesda House, Northeast Parent & Child Society, Safe House, Salvation Army Booth Home, Schenectady Inner City Ministry (SICM) Food Pantry, Scotia-Glenville Food Pantry, St. Luke’s Food Pantry, Braman Food Pantry, Our Lady of Fatima Food Pantry, YWCA Services to Families, and State Street Presbyterian Food Pantry) and all those families who need of a helping hand, I say thank you in advance for donating to the May 10 Postal Drive.

Galway Food Pantry thanks SEFCU for support

The State Employees Federal Credit Union [SEFCU] has long been a supporter of the communities of the Capital Region. The Galway Food Pantry wishes to publicly acknowledge this commitment and our gratitude.

The cutbacks in federal and state aid have proven devastating to all families living below the poverty level, including those in our community. It has also challenged our ability to provide assistance to them. Because of a grant from SEFCU we can continue to provide food to these deserving families.

Our volunteer staff wish to thank SEFCU for their generous support.
