Surgeon accused of selling prescriptions

Federal authorities have arrested a local orthopedic surgeon for allegedly writing prescriptions for hundreds of oxycodone pills in exchange for thousands of dollars in cash. Dr. Jeffrey Gundel, 49, of Gansevoort, is charged with unlawful distribution of oxycodone. He was released on conditions following his appearance in U.S. District Court on Tuesday.
